Yamel rowed with the Cuban National Team from 1985 to 1995. She was national champion in the 1x, 2x and 4x and competed in three Panamerican and three Centroamerican Games. She also raced in multiple international events in Europe, Asia and America. She holds a Bachelor’s in Sports and Physical Education.

From 1996 to 1998 she was a rowing coach for the Rowing National Federation of Guatemala. Her athletes raced at Centroamerican Games and International competititons.

During her time in Guatemala, she taught Physical Education and was a Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer and Swimming coach at the American School of Guatemala.

She coached at “Team Row”, an after school program in Miami, before joining MRC, where she has coached the Varsity Women, Middle School program and the Novice Men’s squad. She also runs the Club’s adult programs.
